🥟 Steamed Dumpling “Lasagne” (Layered Chicken Wonton)

A creative dumpling twist made by layering seasoned minced chicken and wonton wrappers in a bowl, then steaming until tender. Topped with fragrant garlic chili oil for extra flavour. Perfect for a lighter berbuka without rice

Ingredients
  

Chicken Filling
  • 400 g minced chicken
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp mushroom seasoning
  • ½ tsp white pepper
  • 2 tbsp chopped spring onion
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
Layering
  • 10 –14 pieces wonton wrappers dumpling skin
Garlic Chili Topping

Method
 

Prepare the Filling
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine minced chicken, sesame oil, mushroom seasoning, white pepper, spring onion, cornstarch and water.
  2. Mix well until slightly sticky and fully combined.
Layer the Dumpling Lasagne
  1. Prepare a small heatproof bowl.
  2. Spread a thin layer of minced chicken at the bottom.
  3. Place 1–2 pieces of wonton wrappers to cover the surface.
  4. Add another layer of minced chicken.
  5. Repeat layering (chicken → wonton → chicken) until the bowl is almost full.
  6. Finish with a final layer of minced chicken on top.
  7. Press gently to level the surface.
Steam
  1. Bring water to a boil in a steamer.
  2. Place the bowl inside and steam over medium heat for 10 minutes, or until fully cooked.
Serve
  1. Spoon garlic chili oil over the steamed dumpling lasagne.
  2. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Make sure the steamer is fully boiling before placing the bowl inside.
  • Do not overfill the bowl to ensure even cooking.
  • Let rest for 2–3 minutes before slicing for cleaner layers.
  • Can serve with soy sauce or extra chili oil.
